Clarissa Aljentera (Summer 2000)
Senior Coordinator of Family Ministries
Archdiocese of Chicago

In the past two years, I’ve found myself as a facilitator presenting on media and technology for ministers in the Caribbean who want to learn how to use media to share their faith. It’s a far cry from sports journalism, which brought me to media in the late 1990s.

My love of writing and journalism helps me teach others who have a desire or inkling to be better communicators. I wrote “The Parish Guide to Social Media,” published in 2013, and I have spoken internationally on the topic. I’m using my journalism skills these days at the Archdiocese of Chicago, where I am the senior coordinator of family ministries.

The Chips Quinn program showed me that my love and passion for communication can help me relate to, and even more importantly, teach others. There’s nothing quite like inspiring others to be great communicators – especially if they have a passionate message to share. I’m lucky to be one of the few diverse voices in my area of leadership in the Catholic Church. Diversity is important no matter where you are or what you are doing.
