CQS 25th Anniversary Tribute: Brooke Kelly

Brooke Kelly (Spring 2012)
Assistant Account Executive
MP&F Public Relations, Nashville, Tenn.

I am an assistant account executive at MP&F Public Relations, and that is my most meaningful professional accomplishment to date. After graduating from college in 2012, I decided I wanted to live in Nashville, Tenn., close to family. I wasn’t familiar with Nashville media or public relations companies, but I started networking and researching job opportunities. For a couple of years, I worked in retail and as a substitute teacher while continuing to explore my options in communications. I wrote freelance articles, helped a local framing shop with media relations and volunteered with the local Red Cross’ public affairs office. In 2014, I landed a spring internship with MP&F and that summer became a staff associate.

MP&F is one of the largest independent public relations firms in the Southeast, and our clients come from a variety of industries including health care, education, government and tourism. I am not limited in the industry experience I get, and I have opportunities to work on projects I enjoy. My projects have involved research, writing, media relations, video production and social media management. I have also provided pro-bono media and community-relations work to some foundations.

Before working at MP&F, I had no idea how much research and planning went into public relations work. In college, I wanted to be a journalist, and I appreciate how much of my job involves research and writing. While interning through the Chips Quinn Scholars program, I enjoyed taking a deep dive into video work, and I enjoy taking on video projects at MP&F. I look forward to continuing to learn and grow as a professional, and I can certainly say that my work challenges me and teaches me something new every day. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished for my clients and the work I’ve done so far.
