Moment Magazine and the Religious Freedom Center of the Newseum Institute Present “A Great Civil Rights Partnership”

Featuring Eleanor Holmes Norton, Barney Frank, and Julian Bond, Plus Iconic Images From the Era and Music From The Duke Ellington School of The Arts

Join Moment Magazine and The Religious Freedom Center of the Newseum Institute for a celebration of the golden anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. “A Great Civil Rights Partnership: A celebration in honor of the struggle for racial equality, commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Voting Rights Act” will take place at the Newseum at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 3. Moderated by journalist Steven V. Roberts, the event will feature former Congressman Barney Frank, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, and civil rights leader Julian Bond, as well as a song and dance from children from the Duke Ellington School of the arts. There will also be a live photo exhibition of some of the era’s iconic photographs.

Ann Lewis, former White House Director of Communications (Senior Advisor for HRC Presidential campaign) and Co-Chair of Moment’s Board says, "Passage of the Voting Rights Act was a historic step forward for every American, thanks to the coalition who made it possible – from young marchers in the streets to veteran lobbyists in Congress.  This event is a chance to celebrate their courage and dedication, and the importance of their example today!"

Charles Haynes, Executive Director of the Religious Freedom Center adds, "Join us as we honor those who led the march for freedom and justice 50 years ago — and re-dedicate ourselves to advancing the cause of freedom and justice in our country today."

The event is free and open to the public but you must RSVP.
